1. We believe that Family matters...
The Grove was purchased in 1936 by my (Ruth's) Grandparents Bob and Hilda. At that time they didn't know they were pregnant with my Dad, John and apparently wouldn't have purchased the property if they had known. If you want more info on this then check out https://thegrovecromer.co.uk/history/. Anyway, they purchased The Grove and brought up 4 children with pretty old-school names: Jean, Beryl, Edna and John. The Grove became a place where family really mattered. For example, every Christmas there were big celebrations and lots of people were invited to join in. During my upbringing, family was really important. We spent a lot of time together and were at home quite a lot - playing in the garden, the games hut (an old shed with table tennis and snooker) or playing around the house. I was really blessed to have four siblings and so there was always someone to play with. Fast-forward several years, and my oldest siblings, Richard and Chris, manage The Grove and I head up the glamping site. You will also find my nephew, Cam and my niece, Jennifer working onsite too. My Mum makes the marmalade for The Grove and my late Father, John, carefully nurtured the amazing vegetable garden until 2023 when he went to a better place! As family we all love The Grove and believe that family matters and therefore quality family time matters too. We want to provide the best family glamping in Norfolk.
2. We love glamping on the Norfolk Coast
The Norfolk Coast is beautiful and varied. There is the wide open space of Holkham https://www.holkham.co.uk/visit/things-to-do/plan-your-visit/holkham-beach/ and then the small fishing village of Blakeney https://www.visitnorthnorfolk.com/explore/visit/blakeney. There are seals at Horsey https://www.explorenorfolkuk.co.uk/horsey-beach.html and the amusement arcades and fair ground rides of Great Yarmouth https://www.visitgreatyarmouth.co.uk/. There is so much to see and do along the Norfolk coast. Cromer is on the North Norfolk Coast and The Grove Glamping is just a few minutes walk from the cliff top and the beach. As a child I would play in the woods and go to 'Happy Valley' https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/short-routes/cromer-happy-valley-circular-walk-2/ and play on the swings and near the light house. I had a magical upbringing. I spent lots of time on the beach and at low tide there is no other play ground like it.
3. We have good facilities
The Grove is set in four acres of land. We have an indoor heated swimming pool that my Dad and brother built in about 1997/8. We have two amazing restaurants... https://www.thegroveglamping.co.uk/the-grove - Sundown (my personal favourite) that sells pizza and tapas. And then The Garden Rooms, which have a very tasty menu. My in-laws ate there a few weeks ago and said it was one of the best meals they have ever had! We also have an impressive vegetable garden, that supplies lots of the food for the restaurants - zero miles food! There is a play area, Massage Hut https://www.the-massage-hut.co.uk/ and the chance to have afternoon tea and takeaway breakfast. The Shepherd's Lodge even has its own hot tub, pizza oven and Big Green Egg BBQ.
4. We don't take Stag and Hen parties
We are a family friendly site and so we don't have stag and hen parties on our site. We want to encourage family life and so we don't want people to be really noisy in the evening. We often find that several families will take over the whole site for a weekend and that works really well. Everyone can sit around the camp fire and have a glass of wine and some marshmallows and watch the stars. Before the glamping site was there, I would often go and lie outside in the evening and would see a shooting star or two... special times!
5. We invest in our facilities
We are always making improvements to our facilities. We can't do everything all at once but we do try to improve things each year. We started with Bell Tents and now we have yurts. We had lots of waste land and now we have a Shepherd's Lodge. We started with very dodgy solar panels that kept breaking, now we have electricity. We started with one toilet and shower and use of the swimming pool's toilet and showers, now we have our own toilet and shower block. We started with mud to park on, now we have a drive way. We started with pallets for decking, now we have cedar decking. Little by little we are improving and investing in the site - we will continue to do so.
6. (One extra)
We choose to glamp as a family at The Grove and we love doing it. We have been glamping once this season already and are going again in a couple of weekends time. We, as a family of four, love glamping and The Grove is the perfect place for us. We are really proud of what we have made and are incredibly thankful for everyone who has helped us make it. We, as the owners, believe in The Grove Glamping and love spending time in Cromer.
